Italy Sees Slight Decrease in Elastomeric Filament Yarn Imports, Falling to $82 Million in 2024 - News and Statistics - IndexBox
In 2024, elastomeric filament yarn imports into Italy was estimated at 9.3K tons, with an increase of 5.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 12K tons in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, elastomeric filament yarn imports dropped to $82M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at $134M in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
South Korea (3.1K tons), the Netherlands (2.2K tons) and Turkey (1.6K tons) were the main suppliers of elastomeric filament yarn imports to Italy, with a combined 74% share of total imports. China, Poland, Vietnam, Germany and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2014 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +71.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($27M), South Korea ($24M) and Turkey ($11M) constituted the largest elastomeric filament yarn suppliers to Italy, together comprising 76% of total imports. China, Poland, Vietnam, Japan and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
Japan, with a CAGR of +86.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2024, the elastomeric filament yarn price stood at $8,758 per ton (CIF, Italy), dropping by -12.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 20%. The import price peaked at $11,374 per ton in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($14,239 per ton), while the price for Honduras ($764 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
